All About Mrs. Farnesi
I am Mrs. Farnesi, your child's art teacher! I received my Bachelors Degree in Art Education at Northern Illinois University, and a Masters Degree in Art: Drawing and Painting at Governors State University. I am an active member of the National Art Education Association (NAEA), the Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA), and I am a working artist as well.
I believe that art is an important part of the core curriculum, as it ties into all subjects. Through the course of my class students not only create works of art but also learn reading comprehension skills while looking at and talking about art. The students also learn the following skills while creating art: collaboration, cooperation, communication, creativity, organization, problem-solving, to be able to self-direct, be socially responsible, and be fluent with technology.
All the skills they learn in art are life long skills that they can use no matter where they go in life. I enjoy teaching art and watching what each student has accomplished through hard work! It is amazing to see how they grow with each new piece!

Professional DevelopmentAs an active member in the National Art Education Association (NAEA) and the Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA), I attend professional development seminars, artist workshops, and business meetings pertaining to the National Art Education Standards.
In 2018, I was honored to have received the Illinois Art Education Association Jr. High Art Teacher of the Year Award. The last few years I have been part of a committee for the IAEA helping with the awards process. I am the coordinator for the Schools of Distinction program! I have helped facilitate a webinar on Remote Learning for IAEA. In years past, I have not only presented at the Illinois Art Education Association, the National Art Education Association conference, District 109, but also the Kane County Institute. |
(Above: Mrs. O'Hanley and Mrs. Farnesi presenting at the NAEA convention in Ft. Worth, Texas in 2013) The National Art Education Association (NAEA) is the leading professional membership organization exclusively for visual arts educators. I have presented at each annual conference since 2007. The NAEA has worked with the U.S. Department of Education in developing the new core arts standards. The standards describe what students should know and be able to do as a result of a quality curricular arts education program.

Professional Artist
Aside from being your child's art teacher, I am also an active artist. I have been a part of several group exhibitions, several juried exhibitions, a solo exhibition, and I also have a piece in a permanent collection. I have been published in the School Arts Magazine, and the IAEA Mosaic and hope to have a few more articles published in the near future.
